Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!

TGIF!  We found out this week that we will be hosting Thanksgiving this year.  Enter anxiety, brainstorming and a little extra in the budget would be nice!  Last year, I put lots of thought, DIY and thrifting into our Thanksgiving Tablescape.  I'm thinking something a little more simple this year...something a bit more neutral.  This is my inspiration:

'Tis the season for: Mint

Happy Monday to you!  As we get closer and closer to the Holidays, I start scoping out my closet in attempt to start putting outfits together for all the celebrations.  These are a few of my favorite things from the good ole' American staple: J.CREW

The mixture of colorblock, studs, leopard print, and the classic cable knit just can't be beat!  And how cute are those bow stud earrings?!

So, what are you loving right now?  Are you thinking holiday parties too?!  Baby H is going to prevent me from shopping my favorite retailers this year so I'm living vicariously through you all...enjoy :)

Our Thanksgiving Tablescape

I know everyone has already moved on to the next holiday, but I wanted to share how our Thanksgiving Tablescape turned out!  I started by gathering inspiration, then I rounded up my textiles, figured out my place setting, and here we are for the final look!  I sure hope you enjoy it as much as we did!



We used vintage juice and milk jars for the sweet tea and water.  For the centerpiece, I got milk vases at a garage sale for $.10 cents each and filled a hurricane vase with wine corks and mini pumpkins.  My white West Elm owls seem to show up everywhere, so why not the Thanksgiving table?  I brought in two chairs from our patio set for seating on the ends and simply placed pillows on each one to cozy it up!

Thanksgiving Tablescape Planning: Place Setting

It's officially Thanksgiving Week and I've got my table settings in place while I finish up the centerpiece!  We started gathering inspiration here, rounded up our textiles here, now we get to put it all together for a styled table.

I gathered everything I had that might work for the table setting and put it in one place so I could pull from my pile easily.  I ended up tying twine around my silverware for a simple rustic touch:

We decided to go with stemless glassware because they can be used for ice water or wine.  Then I took my chevron napkins that I whipped up, my new chargers and plates, and my $.60 cent Hobby Lobby pumpkins and finished up the place setting! 

As for the runner, I layered an orange pashmina that I already owned with a strip of burlap I'd been using as a fall runner, and then my $4 clearance Pottery Barn runner.  I love the textures it adds and everything was on-hand!

Thanksgiving Tablescape Planning: Textiles

I'm back with my Thanksgiving Tablescape planning progress!  We started here, gathering inspiration for a color scheme as well as a couple of table setting ideas.

Step 2:  Round up what you've got!  Textiles, centerpiece items, dinnerware, etc.

I told you I originally gained my color inspiration from a piece of fabric I had on hand.  The inspirational blue chevron fabric will be our napkins.  I paired it with a vintage floral pattern that will be made into a couple of pillows to dress up the chairs we will be bringing in from our outside dining set in order to have enough seating.  I brought in the burlap for texture and a white and orange greek key table runner.  I had everything on hand already, woot!

Here are my goods, all rounded up together:

1. ZigZag fabric by Premier Prints, also available at fabric.com

2. Vintage Blossom fabric by Dwell Studio for Robert Allen Home, available at fabric.com or JoAnn's

3. Burlap, available at JoAnn's

4. Greek Key table runner, got it on clearance for $4 at Pottery Barn a few years ago (yep, it was a steal)

I also have an orange pashmina that will probably get tied in somehow if needed!

The thing I lacked most was dinnerware.  After doing some research online, I purchased these chargers from Pier 1 Imports, currently 20% off which made them a whopping $3.96 each!  They'll bring a lot of texture and are super versatile!

I picked these plates up as well, also 20% off:

I've been dying to get new white plates and thought this was the perfect excuse.  Then, I headed to Hobby Lobby.  Fall decor is now 80% off folks!  I picked up 5 mini pumpkins and 7 mid-sized pumpkins (all fake of course) for $7!  I was having a really hard time finding them after Halloween, so this was my saving grace!

Next up, the DIY end of the decor!

So, how's your planning going?  Do you have much to buy or are you workin' with what you got?  Anyone else use hosting holiday dinners as an excuse to buy new stuff you've been wanting?  No?  Just me?

The Wreath Chronicals

Last week, the cooler weather got me thinking (and pinning) about fall.  I even mentioned the fall wreath I started working on.  When I was strolling the aisles of JoAnn's looking for the necessities (foam wreath form, the perfect fall colored felt, and push-pins), I had no idea I would be slaving away at 11 p.m. on a Sunday to get the darn thing finished.  Alas, it is finally completed and so. worth. it.  I'd do it again!  Not in the near future, but again someday.  This is how I spent my evenings for the last week.

And yes, those are my kitchen shears.  My crafting scissors weren't sharp enough to cut the felt and I'm a cheapskate and didn't want to invest in high dollar shears just yet.  And here's the reward for all of my hard work:


When I first started searching for wreath ideas, I had no idea what I was looking for.  This is my first wreath...eva!  I just knew felt was a popular and easy method.  So when I found this tutorial over at Design*Sponge, I jumped right in.  While the project was not hard per se, it sure was tedious and time consuming (a lot like my subway art).  But in the end, I'm so stinkin' happy with the way it turned out!  A couple of tips:

1.  The tutorial suggested 2 1/2 yards of fabric, so that's how much I got.  Unfortunately, my fabric was "double wide" (not sure that's the right wording, but it was folded over so 1 yard actually equals 2 yards), so I've got a bundle of golden yellow felt leftover if anyone is interested!  Ha!

2.  You'll need a LOT of pins...I would buy at least 300 so you don't have to go out and buy more mid-project (don't you just hate that?!).

3.  The tutorial also said they used a pencil to trace the lines.  My pencil didn't work on the felt, but I used a pen and it worked just fine!

I used 2 yards of burlap for a table runner and had a few scraps leftover.  I took one strip and used that for the bow.  I thought it was another great way to add texture and more of a rustic feel to my wreath!  One more picture with the whole door:

Oops...I Did It Again

I've been pinning my little heart out...again...to get some inspiration for fall!  After plugging in my Creamy Nutmeg wallflowers, I made my way to Joann's and picked up a cart full of fall crafting goodness.  Since I'm mid project, here's a little something to get you thinking about apple cider and pumpkin patches.  Bring on the Fall!
