Spring has Sprung...Sorta

At least it feels like Spring in mi casa! I showed off my new storage shelves a couple weeks ago. They left a bit to be desired in the styling area. Since we have our tv above the fireplace with all kinds of technology clutter surrounding it, I don't have a mantle to style for each season. Why not style the top of this shelving appropriately and call it a day?! So, here it is! My spring shelf!

I mentioned it in my other post, but I got the faux window frame from Target. It's actually a picture frame! I already owned the pitcher (got it from JoAnns for cheap!) and stuck some $6 flowers in it from Sams Club! Tip: create balance with your vignette by using an odd number of groupings of various heights. Make sure to think about the colors of your items as well! I made the wreath with a simple wreath form and a couple rolls of moss. I tied it onto the frame with a simple piece of burlap. The large metal letters came from Hobby Lobby. I got them when they were 50% off so they were only $12 each!

Attention: We Have a Nook

The nursery is "complete." I say it in quotations because design is never really finished...and I know I'll continue to tweak and add goodies as I find them! So, let's get this party started by taking a look at where we started with the "nook" when we moved in.

Wow. That yellow was really bright. Step one...paint!

Let me say this out loud...I hate painting stripes. For some reason, I had blocked out the terrible memory from my chevron stripe extravaganza and decided to paint them again. I have to say...it DOES make quite the statement! FYI, I used Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze (dark) and Shoji White (light).

Next up was the small gallery wall on the left side. I knew I wanted to do shelves on the right and needed to balance it out. I ended up doing a mixture of frames so it looked more "collected." Plus, I wanted it to be a little different than the ones in the living room and office. The shelves were another DIY. We bought the boards from Lowe's, sanded them, and gave them a few coats of stain. I picked up the metal corbels at Hobby Lobby. They were originally $7.99 each and they were 50% off that week! I'll take 4 corbels for $16! Then I spray painted them with one of the maaaany cans of off-white spray paint I have lying around and bada-bing bada-boom...we've got shelving people!

This was made a lot like I did my subway art for the living room. I made a couple of my own prints and got the State Print from Jenna Sue Designs! I highly recommend her! She has all kinds of prints...I especially love her Maps!

I found the furniture score of a lifetime at TJ Maxx. Unfortunately, I passed it up way back when I had no use for it. I talked about it for months. And then, one February day when I was strolling through TJ Maxx, I saw it. Tufted. Nailhead trim. Linen. The storage bench dreams are made of and at a STEAL for $129. I couldn't find an associate to take it to the front fast enough. My favorite pillow cover also lives here. And that cute little lamb does double duty as a room freshener! It's a Scentsy Buddy!

So here she is in all her glory...our beloved reading corner. I know we will spend lots of time cuddled up here when she gets a little older. For now, we read a book a day and stare at the black and white stripes! I wouldn't trade it for anything!

Why hello there! Yes, I'm still alive. And still pregnant. However, I'm on the home stretch and can't wait to get back into my regularly scheduled blogging! So I thought I would start today since I need to keep busy and my mind off the fact that I still have this bowling ball sized bump attached to my body. AND, I've been working hard on lots of projects and can't wait to share them with you! Here's my life for the last 6 months via instagram!

Weekend Projects on Instagram

Good morning and Happy Monday to you! I kept myself busy, busy this weekend with lots of crafts, shopping, and it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around here! I'm normally a, "Enjoy Thanksgiving and then start getting ready for Christmas," kind of person. But I figured while I had the weekend off with the hubby, I may as well make the most of it. Here is my weekend on Instagram:

I started with a little nursery project. I bought the stuff a month ago and finally got a chance to sit down and hammer it out! They are little size dividers for her closet! I also hung up the three bags of clothes we've managed to accumulate already.

When I left you Friday, I was off to shop for our newly sprung on us news that we are hosting T-Day. I had some luck at Pier 1 and ended up with this for our place setting. Obviously I plan on taking the stickers and price tags off, but you get the idea. Quick product breakdown: Napkin, napkin ring and acorn ornament (great little favor for our guests!) are all from Pier 1; Large plate (already owned) but small plate with little bead detail is from TJ Maxx; Gold charger from Hobby Lobby (only $2 each!). May I mention EVERYTHING was on sale/clearance!

I knew I wanted to make the centerpiece because it can get a bit spendy. So I grabbed my pumpkins that I got on clearance last year, some old paint samples in a light grey and beige, newspaper and mod podge. I wanted a mixture of all neutral pumpkins and a couple of hours later I had these...

Why, Hello there! Remember me? Well, for those of you that have graciously kept me on your Reader or clicked on over to see what I had to blab about...finally...after all this time, I have some updating to do.

For starters, this happened.

Yep...we're preggo! In this pic, right at 20 weeks. We are expecting our little bundle of excitement March 11 and we are anxious to meet her! In short, I slept through the first 3 months. Got off my behind and did some laundry during the fourth month. And I've recently gotten bit by the nesting bug and have started shopping 'til I drop. Helloooo...what a reason to decorate, right?!

Before you start reaching to take me off your Reader for fear of becoming a baby blog, keep your fingers in control. I do plan on documenting the occasional monumental moments, but I won't be keeping you informed every time she spits up, sucks her thumb or makes a funny face. That's what FaceTime with the grandparents is for! This blogger will stay true to her pre-mommy roots and throw in the occasional "look how cool her room is and how much it doesn't look like a nursery!" and chock full of good ole DIYs! Speaking of DIY:

Completed my first nursery DIY and got the itch to make some fab subway art and make them available on my Etsy Shoppe! I'll also be taking custom orders (they would make great gifts for the holidays!!).

And guess what AH-mazing fabric is coming to the Shoppe? I'll give you a hint...her blog will rock your socks off and she is the Owner of CWT...Caitlin Wilson Textiles!

Yep! I bought up my favorite fabric and have some suggestions for mixing her high-end designer line with other low cost options! Can you tell I'm excited?!

Summa, Summa, Summa-time!

TGIF! I was off work yesterday, so my day went a little something like this:

Wake up to precious kisses from the pup.

Coffee. Immediately.

Toodled around Pinterest and found some fab hairstyle tutorials.

Sewed some pillows and shipped them off. I just imagine people opening up the package with such excitement and it makes my heart happy.

Proceeded to Target, TJ Maxx and JoAnn's.

Made my new summer wreath.

Got some colour.

Discovered an AMAZING new blog and I'm secretly hoping we can be besties. She rocks my socks off! SHINE ON!

I got a wreath form, and 4 individual stems from JoAnn's. I pulled the blooms off and hot glued them around my form. It cost $17 (after using 3 coupons on my JoAnn's app!) and took all of 30 minutes!

Well, I still need to work on my tan but my fingers and toes are ready for summer with O.P.I.'s You're a Pisa Work!

DIY Office Shelves

TGIF! It's been a busy week...which means I've got a little something to finally show off today! I started this project here, when I realized I needed to run my business out of an office--not a cardboard box (or 3). Clearly I needed storage and despite the beautiful shelving units I had spotted, I couldn't bear to cough up the sticker price. When on a budget...DIY!

I gathered my supplies, sanded my boards (first with 80 grit, then 220 grit sandpaper), stained them, then decided how much room I wanted between each shelf. Twenty inches ended up being the perfect measurement. It was all gravy from there:
