I know, I know. It's been almost a week since I left you with my one task to complete for the weekend--to finish our thank_you notes. Well, I'm happy to report that they are now complete and it's back to reality, er decorating, for me and the Mr.! The first task is to finally pull the trigger on our living room rug purchase. First, we took some measurements and determined we were looking for a rug in the 8 x 10 feet size range. Let the rug hunting begin!
After days weeks of looking at rugs in stores and online, we had narrowed it down to three rugs in three very different price-points. I've always been an advocate of, "if you love it AND can afford it, splurge if needed." However, "find the one you like at price you love," seemed to banter back and forth in my head. Needless to say, I wasn't going to spend thousands (which I quickly realized isn't all that hard to do) on a rug that's going to get spilled on, scratched up by our five pounds of furry (the pup, a.k.a. Miss B) and straight up used by us on a daily basis. It's going in our living room and needs to function and, fingers crossed, fit in with our decor style.
Enough of my babbling, let me show you Option #1 (first shown here in my Moodboard), Shaw Living Berries rug, shown in beige, available at Lowe's for $268 :
I love the contemporary style of this rug, of all of these rugs really, and the neutral colors that would fit nicely in our great room. However, with our sage green couch and loveseat, I was thrown off a bit with the blues and a little intimidated by the task of trying to tie the colors together.
Option #2 is another Shaw Living rug available at Lowe's, the Shaggedy Shag (yes, I love saying the name), shown in beige at $168:
Likes include price (seriously, crazy good deal), the reviews were ah-mazing, it's solid so essentially a blank slate which means I'm not decorating around it, and lastly it's super soft which is the main reason we are getting a rug anyways! Dislikes, I only want it in cream and let's just say:
me + red wine + cream rug = disaster waiting to happen
And finally, option #3. Now, I fell.in.love. with this rug at World_Market and first informed you of my affair with it here. Of course, they were out of the size we were looking for, but I ended up finding it at Bellacor for a whoppin $559:
Obviously loving the contemporary and neutral style of this rug. I already plan on accessorizing with greys (it's the new black if you didn't know), so working it into the color scheme would be a piece of cake, or pie. Yummm, pie. Anyhoo! The only dislike is quite a doozy--price. Knowing that I see ketchup, kids, and wine in it's future makes my heart hurt and my head realize that it just isn't practical, or affordable, for us.
Are you as excited as I am to see the winner?? We chose...
Option #2 Shaggedy Shag!
...and I'm in love. It's soft, contemporary, neutral, so-far-so-good as far as spills go, and we got it for a great price. I couldn't be happier with our new addition!
