    Go big or go home.

I've been one busy bee and I'm so excited to show y'all what's going on over here at our abode!  As you've probably noticed--it's stinkin' hot!  Like, sweating walking to the mailbox kind of hot.  So I've been putting off giving my Craigslist desk a makeover for fear of heatstroke by the time I finish.  Well, I decided I was going to tackle this bad boy anyways!  I got all of my tools (yep, I have tools!) together and got busy!
I removed the drawers and hardware, then got my sand on!  The desk was in pretty bad shape.  Lots of dents, scratches and the occasional hole.  She had been used and abused.  I used wood filler where the sander couldn't do the job, allowed it to dry, then gave my gem an all over sand with a fine grit block to get it smooth.  To beat the heat, I did all of this between commercial breaks so I was only outside for about five minutes at a time.  Eight (okay, maybe not eight but it was quite a few!) episodes of Criminal Minds later, here she is!
The top was actually wood laminate (basically plastic) so it can't be sanded down.  But since this puppy was only $30 and I planned on painting it anyways, no biggie.  Two coats of Kilz oil-based primer later and we're ready for paint!
Since the Mr. has been giving me a hard time about painting everything in our house white (no really, he's scared to leave the house when I have a paintbrush or spray paint in-hand), I decided to go bold.  I've also been inspired lately to get out of my little box and take a risk.  Probably from watching Home by Novogratz.  Have you seen it?  Ah-mazing and genius stuff.  So here's my leap of faith.  Check out that bottom color on the swatch...
I think the guy at Lowe's thought I was crazy.  I must have stood, looking at every.single.swatch. for a little over an hour.  I even brought all six that I had fallen in love with to lunch with the mister to get his opinion.  We had a winner!  Yep, I'm feelin' blue again and I can't wait to see how it turns out!  I think this desk just may be the pop this room needed!
Whatcha think?  Am I crazy?  Do you like taking risks and experimenting with color?  Or do you play it safe with the big stuff and accent with color?  Oh my goodness, I'm shakin' in my Toms (it's too hot for boots) to see the transformation completed!

And yes, it is VERY hot out! I was just walking to the store from my car the other day and I was definitely sweating! I never thought I'd say this (because I love summer) but I'm so ready for the fall! :)

Love the bold color choice! My boyfriend and his family say the same thing about my obsession with painting everything white. I have a desk I am working on as well, so maybe I'll take a risk and paint it another color as well! Thanks for the inspiration :)

I love the royal blue in the first swatch! I also love that you're going bold. I have been painting everything white lately, but I have been itching to find something to paint bright turquoise or orange. :)
